SCAN-Lab Technical Notes 04: The importance of the Counter Electrode in LEIS measurement

Introduction

The LEIS370 and LEIS470 are provided with a Counter Electrode (CE) assembly specifically designed for LEIS. The advantage of this CE over other CE configurations is that it will allow the user to obtain matching results whether the user performs a forward or backward scan in the x and/or y axis. The other advantage is that the LEIS image will actually correspond spatially to the physical feature under investigation. These two points are illustrated in this note.
